Toften Centre for Rehabillitation

Architecture that heals
Toften Centre for Rehabilitation is a visionary building that has been developed from a theory based on healing architecture combined with an in-depth knowledge of the inhabitants/ citizens needs.

A circular building body

Clarity, efficiency of staff workflows and privacy for citizens have been important parameters in the management of the house. The circular building body and the courtyard give the center a great deal of transparency towards the central common areas while the 28 residential/ private rooms achieve tranquility and privacy along the exterior of the building.

The architecture is rooted in the Nordic tradition in terms of design language, choice of materials and the important role of daylight.

Sustainability strategy for form, materials and daylight

It is also based on sustainability strategies that follow the principles of DGNB. The building opens to all corners of the world and is infused with a full range of daylight qualities. Simultaneously, a large roof overhang creates a passive, integrated, but also effective sun protection against the sun. This ensures that there is real opportunity for outdoor living and training – even in rainy weather.

One of the things that makes Toften quite unique is that the architecture and vision of the house is based on thorough user engagement, the involvement of citizens and the expertise of healthcare professionals.

User Involvement and Test 1: 1

One of the things that makes Toften quite unique is that the architecture and vision of the house is based on thorough user engagement, the involvement of citizens and the expertise of healthcare professionals. In external cooperation with Syddansk Sundhedsinnovation, testers have played through various everyday scenarios in order to optimize the centre’s area and interior so that it interacts with specific work situations.
